The use of crystals for alternative healing has been widely documented and has become increasingly popular over the past couple of years.
Alternative healing and conscious living are proving the best methods in achieving balance and well-being in a chaotic and materialistic world.
As a healer, coach and certified hypnotherapist I have found meditating with crystals beneficial in many ways.
Why use crystals?
While you don’t necessarily need anything to have a fruitful meditation, crystals add a dimension of inner exploration that can be quite rewarding. Here are a few reasons to consider:
- It deepens the experience
- It reinforces your intentions
- It helps you to raise your consciousness and awareness
- It can boost your intuition & insight
Getting started
Find a quiet space where you know you won’t be disturbed – listen to your meditation music through earphones if you need to block out environmental noise.
Make sure that your clothing is comfortable and choose a position that you can maintain for 15 minutes or more without cramping up.
Set your alarm to 15 minutes.
Find the best music for you
Each person is different, and so your preference for calming music will differ from someone else’s. Your choice will also depend on the intention you set for the meditation. If you are new to meditation, you might prefer starting with guided meditations. I find these two meditations from Abraham Hicks great options:

If you have been practising meditation for a while and prefer music only options, I find these work well:
Choosing crystals for your meditation
Each crystal has its own vibration and supports different aspects of your life and physical body. There are so many options, but my personal favourites are:
Amethyst – healing energy, aids in sleep, blood circulation, balancing of chakras
Rose Quartz – unconditional love
Clear Quartz – improves awareness and reduces stress
Selenite – helps connect to a higher consciousness
Citrine – stone of joy, attracts joy and abundance
Sodalite – improves order and calmness in your mind
Lapis Lazuli – boosts spiritual development, increases intuitive abilities and resolves conflict
Tiger’s Eye – supportive stone in times of change, provides empowerment
When choosing your crystals – make the decision intuitively, let go of doubt and go with the first thought that comes to mind or notice which stone you are drawn to. Trust the process!
Make sure to cleanse your crystals before you begin. You can do this by:
- Passing your crystal through incense or sage smoke
- Exposing your crystal to sun or moonlight for several hours
- Immersing your crystal in saltwater
- Burying your crystal in a bowl of brown rice or coarse salt
Methods to meditate with crystals
Once you are ready you can start experimenting to see which method works best for you:
Holding the crystal in your palm
This is the most common method. Simply take the crystal/s you have chosen in your palm and hold them while meditating.
Crystal grids or circles
You can create a crystal grid or circle by placing the crystals in an intentional shape around you or directly in front of you. During meditation, you can focus on them, or close your eyes.
In the bath
If you are having trouble relaxing, you may find it helpful to meditate with crystals in a hot bath.
On your chakras
You can place a crystal on the chakra that aligns with your intention. Laying crystals on your body allows the healing properties to activate those areas and rebalance the energies.
Grounding & setting your intention
Ground yourself and ask your higher self and spirit guides to help you in this session. Next, ask your crystals for permission to use their vibrations. Simply connect to your intuition and feel for an answer. Now you can concentrate on your breathing while you relax your body.
If you notice your mind wandering, simply acknowledge the thoughts and send them away.
End your meditation by thanking each of the crystals you have used. Connect with your breath again while you start becoming aware of your surroundings again, opening your eyes slowly when you are ready.
